Moving to Houston - Looking for apartment
I'm moving to zip code 77060 for a new job from wonderful Atlanta, the place I love.
Plese suggest some nice, safe apartments closer to this zip code. I'm married and have a 10 month old baby. I have no idea about Houston. Please guide.
Thanks a lot to the wonderful memebers of this forum.

I don't think you will be able to find a safe apartment in that zip code. I believe that zip code lies within Greenspoint or as some refer to it as Gunspoint. The best I can suggest is living a few miles north of that area in Spring. It's a much safer community.
Good luck with your search

Thanks Westhou.
I have no idea about the area or the zip code. It would be great if you can list some apartments (one bedroom as my family will only join me after 5-6 months) closer to this zip code.
Basically I'm looking for a nice, safe place for working professionals as close as it is to 77060. If the safest, nicest place is 10 miles, it's ok.
Please give me an idea of the area and it would be great if you can list some nice apartment communities.

If you'll be working in the Greenspoint area, I'd recommend The Woodlands (that would be my top pick), Spring, or Kingwood/Atascocita for apartments.
The Woodlands zip codes: 77380, 77381, 77382
Spring Zip codes: 77379, 77389, 77373
Kingwood zip codes: 77339, 77345
Atascocita zip code: 77346
Good luck!! Atlanta will be hard to leave, I am sure! Welcome to Houston!

Thanks for the reply Mom2Feebs:
I did some research on the zip codes you gave me and found out that only these 3 lie within the 15 mile radius:
1.) The Woodlands zip codes: 77380
2.) Spring Zip codes: 77379,77373
It would be great if you suggest some decent, safe and clean studio or a one bedroom apartment community in these locations.
Thanks a lot for your time.

If you are renting in a complex out there, get in a complex that is in a stand alone setting, by itself, and not in an "apartment row" with lots of complexes side by side. I would think the Woodlands proper would be preferable even if it is a little higher.
Ask if the property does criminal background screening on its tenants. Some of the nicer looking ones don't bother and that can make a huge difference. When the apartment locators learn a complex doesn't do criminal background checks, that is where they send all their felons that can afford it.
I would ask them what their overall criteria is. You can also check crime stats on the internet.
I would not go anywhere near Greenspoint. Nothing in Northborough, not on Greens Parkway, skip the ones along Ella, Red Oak, Cypress Station area, or anything that comes close to Imperial Valley Drive.

Are you working toward your MBA, if so then UH or Rice will be a huge drive for you out in the woodlands and spring area. Also you might want to look into how far those areas are from Houston proper, if your looking into maybe going out on the weekends and such.
But since your a new family I think you will love HOuston.
Lets just say your coming to the right place.

Thanks eestudent and modster.
I'm coming to work from Atlanta in the Greesnpoint Area. Can you name some specific apartment communities - that would make a lot of difference.
I used this forum when I moved to Atlanta and it was a very smart decision. Looking for the same feedback when work is taking me to Houton.
