A couple of very tall residential high rises in Market sqare, a couple near Discovery Green, and a couple more down near the Pierce Elevated are coming in. Several block apts have opend in the old 4th ward. There should be several thousand more residents coming downtown in the next couple of years.

Houston's downtown needs MORE things street-level for a city that looks more alive then shiny and sterile with some ugly parking garages. Surely more will possibly get added to Main St. But unless big parking garages can gain things street-level between skyscrapers that are not going too? Not much hope for the existing ones. Some are like a fortress. Even Hotels didn't do better. Time will tell? But long Hot humid summers don't help for outdoor dining like some Northern cities seem to do.

I still say Downtown Houston should have went far more for a Tropical like say ---->Miami? Because it could as Being sub-tropical? All surely would set it port from Dallas. Many lost opportunities I see. But can always improve right?

To Houston My it continue good infill in neighborhoods near downtown and escape this notion
of a gleaming but kinda sterile downtown, that WILL improve with more live-in residents coming.

The Historic District / Market Square area is currently the most "resurrected" part of Downtown, generally Thursday - Saturday evenings.

Hard to say how well the Avenida / Discovery Green area will do with all the new restaurants they're adding - it's a lot of stuff to swallow at once, even with more conventions.

And awesome for making it work for people instead of theoretical concepts.

Most of the establishments in the tunnel cater exclusively to office workers and would close at 3:30 pm even if they were at street level. This is pretty common in central business districts around the country (was very noticeable in Chicago). The tunnel system is a tremendous amenity that allows a lot of walking around without dealing with oppressive heat or especially the threat of one of our infamous downpours.
