Default Cypresswood subdivision in Spring

Well after looking around a lot I have found the subdivision of Cypresswood. How is it? Houses there are going for a very reasonable price and very very nice places. What is the catch? Seems too good to be true. And if i'm reading it correctly, there is a fee to live there. Is that right? 1 more thing... would I be able to store my travel trailer in my driveway or something? or would that be against the rules? Thanks in advance. If you think you have a better place to live in North Houston with a budget of 150K.. let me know.

I know several people that live in Cypresswood. Its is one of the more well established neighborhoods in that area. From what I have seen I doubt that you could store a travel trailer in the driveway but you never know. Besides the fact that the houses are a little older I like the fact that no two are the same. Every home in the neighborhood has its own character and its not of the cookie cutter variety. Its also has relatively easy access to I45 and there are plenty of grocery stores, shopping in the area.

Hope this helps.

The one thing I would avoid is living on Cypresswood Drive itself (as in your home actually has an address on Cypresswood Drive). Despite the slower speed limits, its an extremely busy street in that part of town. Other than that, I belive its a nice, established neighborhood.

In a similar area, you could venture up to Louetta and check out Spring Creek Oaks/Forest, Memorial Northwest, parts of Champion Forest, etc in that price range if you felt like expanding your search. There are also quite a few smaller neighborhoods up and down Cypresswood Drive that might be worth checking out.

Also, I'm not sure exactly where the school lines are, but you should stay in the Klein district in that area, in my opinion: and then, make sure you aren't zoned to Klein Forest high school, any of the other Klein schools are great. (I think most of that area is Klein Collins)

Yea I'm kinda fond of the klein school district. That seems to be the best place that I have found. I'm curious though... how much are the utilities there? I know all places are different but say just your average 2000-2500 sq foot home, what would the electricity be? The more I look at spring the more I just love it. The houses are just soooo nice and affordable.

Its going to vary wildly. USUALLY an older home is going to run more for utilities because it won't have the latest and greatest energy effecient bells and whistles.

Our former 3500 sq ft home (new construction) built in 2002 was even less effecient than our new 4000 sq ft home. That being said utilities will probably run you $100-$150 for electricity in the winter and up to $350 or so in the summer per month. (This of course can vary wildly for a variety of reasons). Water is usually going to be through a M.U.D. in this area and will run about $25-$40 per month and includes sewer as well. Gas will run $25 or so in the summer and upwards of $100 in the winter depending on how warm you want your house. Cable and phone are of course discretionary.

Things that can help on the electric are: get a North or South facing home so that it doesn't get full sun through the windows during the day in the summer. Buy a newer home with energy effecient double paned windows, energy effecient appliances, tech-shield roofing materials, good insulation, etc.
