Moving to Houston in June, looking for decent high schools
Hi Everyone we are moving to Houston this summer. I am in search of a nice suburban area with a 30 minute commute to downtown Houston. I'm also in search of a decent high school with no more than 2000 students. I am amazed at the number of students in the high schools. We currently live in New Hampshire and our high school has about 1500 students. Our son is entering 10th grade. I've done a lot of research on the internet, but now I'm looking for some personal opinions. Anything you have to offer is appreciated!!! I'm looking forward to the beautiful texas weather!!!!!!

High School
Hi,
I am a realtor. This piece of information may help you: http://www.fortbend.k12.tx.us/cmf/var/tidbits/Tidbits_parentlinks_20070305_0820.pdf (broken link)
Travis High School is a brand new high school with only 1000 students. Fort Bend isd is a very good school district.
You might consider to live in Sugar Land area. One of the best city rated by cnn:

Atascacita High School just opened this past fall and is beautiful. I'm not sure of the number of students. Summerwood Community is located nearby and is about 20 miles from downtown, Fall Creek and Eagle Springs communities are also great and go to this HS. Fall Creek is just 15 miles to downtown. Fall Creek is the closest Master Planned Community to downtown and is on the Golf course where the Shell Houston Open takes place next week...so you can check it out on TV.
Good Luck in your search. ~K~

Very, Very few good public high schools in Houston with under 2000 students.
As for quick commutes to downtown and good schools, I'd go with Kingwood.

I am also a Realtor in the Houston area....specifically the Pearland area. The commute to Houston from Pearland is 20-30 minutes, depending on which part of town you are going to. You'll find very nice homes....both resale and new construction in Pearland. The 2 school districts in the area are Pearland ISD and Alvin ISD. Both are good. My husband is Director of Curriculum for Alvin ISD. I used to teach in Pearland ISD. Silverlake and Shadow Creek Ranch are two of several nice subdivisions in Pearland. Silverlake is zoned to Pearland ISD while Shadow Creek Ranch is Alvin ISD. If you're interested in test scores or more information, I believe my email is available through this forum.

Atascacita High School only goes to 11th grade. I think for 12th grade the kids go to Humble High School.
Look into Charter Schools.

I don't know about how many students but my kids go to Klein High school and we live in Spring 77379. It is a great area, beautiful and family oriented. I think you could check www.greatschools.net and check www. HAR.com to check out neighborhoods and zip codes.

Here is a school to check out. A little longer commute than you may like but it may be worth it. http://www.danbury.isd.esc4.net/
I did the commute for six years before I retired. I worked in One Houston Center.
Yes, I have a very nice rural subdivision.

Clements High School in Sugarland has a little over 2000, but it's supposed to be nice.

Lets see Kingwood.. Home of the Girls drill team robbers. Was it automatics they used at the doughnut shop? Need a quote from the news? Last I remember in the late 70s, the teen son of one of the prominant people in Kingwood had a burb gang and fire bombed peoples cars ... need the sheriffs report on that?
Houston schools are home to some of the brightest and best. Some just can't handle the competition.
