Living in a city where you can drive in a convertible car for 11 months out of the year.

Now that's fantastic.

I suppose. Personally, I love the heat and humidity, but it appears to get a lot of sensitive people's panties in a twist.

I've lived here all my life and am perfectly willing to admit that June through mid-September is NASTY.

The best examples of Houston's character was after the hurricane when you saw young and old, wealthy and poor getting out together and clearing major roads, and cutting trees out of neighbor's houses. BBQs occured on the streets. No one waited around to have things "taken care" of for them...they went out and took care of it themselves. No whinners. And no looting occured. That in itself was amazing and spoke a lot about the community as a whole.
Hurricane Ike was certainly the truest test of the city's / region's character and all of what you say is so true. In my little area of suburbia, I saw countless examples of selfless acts of kindness. No helpless whining about how long it was going to take someone else to get something done -- people just got on with it and helped each other out instead. A week after the hurricane, everyone's debris had been cleaned up an piled into their little mountains... and in just a matter of weeks that was hauled away. For what was apparently the fourth costliest storm in U.S. history, we have to be pretty proud of how far we've come in just 6 months!

So, do long time residents think that it was worse than Alice in 1983?

No comparison! I was here then. Alicia didnt shut down the city. My area (Alief) had minor street flooding but power outage was limited to a few hours...maybe a day in the outlying areas. Alicia was a small inconvenience...Ike was a full-blown disaster.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize it was the worst Houston storm in modern history. I recall listening to a local radio station down there (on the internet) with a call in show during the storm and a Woman called in from Galveston. She said that She didn't leave because of her husband's medical condition and she was scared that they were going to die...that was pretty heart wrenching listening to that.

Yes the weather, Houston has no fall and no winter The past few days have been ok, much better than the middle of August will be, but over all a few good days does not make up for 358 bad ones.

It depends on your definition of perfect weather, nine days of perfect weather here is rare to me.

You might be sorry about all the trash you talked about Texas if some cannibalistic appalachian mountain men start stalking you while you're living in the higher elevations of north carolina.
