i am looking for an apartment in the rice u/west u/tmc area, preferably close to rice university campus. i have found the following two apartment complexes near hermann park:

-amalfi (from archstone)
-alta lofts/lofts at hermann park

does anyone know if these two are safe? safety is a big issue. also, does anyone know any other apartment complexes of comparable quality that area available in the area (not espanalde or plaza museum though)

thank you!

Safer apartments will be on the western side of Hermann park, although the two you mentioned are safe enough, although you certainly want to keep your wits about you. Be vigilant, pay attention and don't make yourself an easy mark for car break ins and that sort of thing.

But again, your safer complexes will be something along Bellaire or Bissonnett between Main Street and the West Loop.

FYI Only a minute from Rice U. I used walk to the medical center at all hours of the day and night and feel completely safe. I loved it, but had to move to the suberbs due to family expansion.
