Default Freeport/Surfside

I'm going to be spending some time in Lake Jackson area and was wondering how Freeport, Surfside and the Western end of Galveston was doing. Just looking for some places to eat and maybe some beach to walk around on. Are the roads back and easily traveled?

jingram is on a distinguished road
We drove from Freeport to Galveston a couple weeks ago. Large portions of the Blue Water Highway are missing but you can detour onto the beach. It was interesting to say the least, many of the beach houses look like they could topple at any minute. We didn't really see any places to eat or anything along the way, the whole area looked pretty deserted. (we went on a Sunday) Lots of access points to the beach though and plenty of room to walk around.

The Blue Water Hwy is certainly different now. Be careful driving because all they have is little sticks with a ribbon on it where the road drops off. Like Jingram said part of it detours onto the beach.
I think the Red Snapper is back open in Surfside. I have never been and my Mom said it was OK. If you go over the bridge into West Galveston you can try Avery's in Sea Isle. It overlooks the bay and Sea Isle Marina.

I just read an article in the Chron about the re-opening of the purple cow in surfside. It looks like it may be a fun party today.
