Default Suggestions Will Be Very Much Appreciated!

We are moving to Houston in three months and still have not decided where to buy our house. Work location not being a problem, since husband works overseas, we definitely want to buy our dream house in a nice, safe, family oriented location. Good schools are a must since my daughter will start her middle school in Texas and very likely will finish her high school there. Researching all the MPC, we found one that very much calls our attention: Gleannloch Farms, if anybody reading my post happens to live there or knows about this area, I'd certainly appreciate your insight. We’d also like to know about good subdivisions in Cypress, we’ve seen nice homes there but know nothing about pros and cons of the area. This forum has been a very valuable tool during our house research, we’ve learned a lot about Cinco Ranch, Sugar Land and The Woodlands, but we are completely open to suggestions about good family oriented subdivisions. We'll visit Houston in three weeks and would love to have a good list of places to see. Our price range is 300K-400K. Many Thanks in Advance!

Why are you choosing Houston if your husband works overseas? Just asking. Most people don't move here to build "dream" anything. They move here for employment or family.

Ah. Ok. The family card

If you move to Gleannloch Farms you won't be in the city.... In fact, it will feel just like NW Florida. I don't know much about the schools at Gleannloch, but the area is as nice as any up there. You may want to look closely at the tax rate and if their is a MUD tax. Those can be hugely different outside the Beltway areas.

Cypress areas you can get a little land locked by traffic. But it's fine if you don't come into the city often. People like Longwoods in that direction.

How about Lake Conroe? Bentwater? You could get a house on a lake?

I like Gleanloch Farms alot. It is a pretty area with very large lots and good prices. The entire area is growing and if you do not have to commute that is a big bonus. People that live out there may know more but I have heard there is a noise problem with the nearby small airport.

It sounds you would very much like Pearland.

You don't need to go to Pearland unless you are working Downtown or the Med-Center. Stay north of town if employment is not the issue.

Sorry, Pearland is my least favorite of all the MPCs. It has a purpose to house those who work in the Med Center or downtown, that can't afford the close-in prices. Yeah, I'm being blunt.......but there you go. It even eeks out the Woodlands for me. It has a function, but if you aren't working here, it's just not a function you need.

Bridgeland is a nice new MPC in Cy-Fair ISD, which is a very good district. You'll have to face the horror of 290, but the community is really nice. I have a house for sale there, but may not be your dream home (only 3bdrms). Our family would stay there forever, but we were just relocated to the East Coast. Good luck!

I am not sure of which area of Houston has the best school district, but I have always heard good things about the Katy ISD. Not sure if the Cy-fair area, or Woodlands are as good or better....but the general stereotype that I get about school districts is that Katy is the best school district. Again, I myself don't know that for sure, but if schools are important, and location doesn't matter, than Katy might be a good option. I know the Pearland school district is not as good as Katy as I live in Pearland right now and am moving to Katy for their schools among other things.
