Recommendation on Grand Mission in Richmond,TX
We are thinking of purchasing a home in Grand Mission. However, we had a couple of concerns,
1. Crime - Any idea of what the crime rate is in that area? We have heard of drug gangs operating in that area. Also, since the new Alexan apartments have just opened, they will attract more crime. Begs the question, why is the alarm monitoring offerred as part of the HOA?
2. Schools - Not heard great things about the schools. Any recommendation on Oakland Elementary School will be appreciated.
3. Lakemont - The section that we are considering of buying a home in, is right across the street from this subdivision. The discrepancy in house values just across the street is a little troubling. Any idea on what it will do to house values in Grand Mission.
If anyone has insight about this subdivision, your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I take it you want the Katy life without paying the Katy money? If you're worried about those issues, why don't you just jump across the tollway pay the extra 40k and buy into Cinco Ranch?
I think Grand Mission is a nice community and you're over-reacting, but keep in mind "my nice and your nice" could be totally different.

Kind of, looking for the Katy life just in terms of resale values. Also, like the convenience of being right next to Westpark tollway. My wife works in Woodlands, so would not like to add to her commute by moving further in Katy or being forced to use I-10. Thanks for your reply.

I was thinking about building in GM back in late 2007. I did some research and decided not to buy there. I am glad I made that decision. I advise you to read this next thread to see the entire discussion, but it has some illuminating stories about GM.

I'd look in Grand Lakes in Katy. It butts up to the Westpark and the schools are really good.
There's a ton of homes for sale in there right now ... don't know what that's about.

I am telling you man... You should look in Cinco Southwest. There are new communities pretty close to 1093 which would make it easier for your wife to get onto Westpark toll way.
Cinco has more Amenities compared to Seven meadows and Grand Lakes.
It has great schools and it will be easier to sell a home there as well.

Wow...how much in tolls would that cost daily? And it must be at least an hour commute.

I would not move to Katy or Richmond If my wife worked in the woodlands JMHO, you should give Spring a look.
FYI; I would not let a toll road be seen as a luxury when buying a house, think of it as a last ditch option.

Looks like there aren't many people living in Grand Mission in this Forum...

Would be $10 in tolls daily to the Woodlands using EZ-Tag. Plus the commute is around 1hr 10mins each way.
