They filmed the "larger than life" tv show Dallas in Dallas, it wasn't called Houston. I mean come on, you have to give that one to Dallas, there isn't any debate.
I know what first class is and Dallas is first class all the way. Look at the Galleria, Northpark, Highland Park, Willowbend, etc. Plenty of upscale shopping. Plus look at the shopping that is exclusive to Dallas: Faconable, Calvin Klein, Escada, Calypso, Anne Fontaine, Porthault, Robert Talbot, Custo Barcelona, Via Spiga, Celine, Hugo Boss, Tod's, and Loro Piano. Talk about exlusive .
Dallas also has plenty of culture. Look at the Nasher Sculpure Garden or the new $250 million dollar performing arts center being built in downtown Dallas. Plus great art museums and galleries. Plus they have the Cowboys...I mean it's the COWBOYS . You definetly cannot beat Dallas when it comes to sporting. The Cowboys, the Mavericks, the Rangers; you can't beat 'em.
And you forgot to mention the amazing restaurants in Dallas. That city has more restaurants per capita than NYC for crying out loud! And it has plenty of fine dining options. The French Room at the Adolphus is arguably the best restaurant in the US. I've been there and it is breathtaking; a feast for the eyes. Houston just can't compete wth Dallas when it comes to great places to eat.
And what about nightlife? Houston seems to shut down at 10 while Dallas is still living it up. Dallas has a ton of bars, clubs that are places to see and be seen.
And I do like Houston; it's a great city.

Again, most of Dallas' restaurants are chains. He can't see that when you come on "business" here. Have you been to Downtown Dallas after dark? It really is dark. Dallas' downtown is more 9-5 than Houston's. Dallas' part/restaurant seen is Deep Ellum. Houston's is in downtown and along Richmond.

Mavericks and Rangers? Really, the Rangers? It was the Astros that made the world series a few years ago. And I know it's been over a decade, but it was the Rockets who were twice NBA champs.
From the sound of things, I really think you've just had more opportunity to go exploring as far as restaurants and nightlife in Dallas than you have in Houston. I just say that because I think they are both on par with each other as far as having great places to eat and nightlife. Some sources (Wine Spectator and another magazine I forget) have listed Houston as the 4th best restaurant city in the country, behind NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco.

Lol, the Mavs are the only team in Texas not to win a championship. The Ranger shave done nothing at all. The Cowboys are really the metroplex's only team, and will be until the Mavs and Rangers do something in the post-season.

Funny how many Mavs fans there are now. Just ten years ago (even five), there weren't any.

If Houston and Dallas each continues the numerical growth they've had in the 2000-2006 period, here's when each will hit 7,000,000:
Dallas-Fort Worth has averaged 134,595 growth per year; Houston: 133,088 per year.
Houston hits 6,000,000 before 2010 census,
Houston hits 7,000,000 in 2017
Dallas-Fort Worth hits 7,000,000 in 2014.
However, In both metros, recent growth has been greater than those averages. If they each maintain the growth they experienced in 2005-2006, they will hit 7,000,000 VERY close to the same time, around the 2012-2013 time frame.

Willow Bend is pretty much ... nothing at all. Galleria Dallas is being canabilized by NorthPark in my opinion. Houston has an Anne Fontaine store in The Galleria next to Jimmy Choo or Movado
Facconable
Celine
Calvin Klein
Via Spiga
Loro Piana (if thats what you mean)
all have close in Dallas (Loro Piana in Plano)
Houston Exclusives
Dior
Yves Saint Laurent
Donald J Pliner
MaxMara
Emporio Armani
Giorgio Armani
Fendi
Bally of Switzerland
Christofle
Lalique
Louis Vuitton is a Global Store in The Galleria Houston

... amongst many other luxury goods shopping in Houston. Probably the only other city in the south with similar opportunities is Miami.

I really don't think you know about Dallas or Houston. If you did, you wouldn't say that Dallas's night life is better than Houston's. I think they're equally great for nightlife. Houston has more commercial street night life while Dallas has slightly more "village" nightlife atmosphere
And your thinkg about Dallas being the #1 visitor destination in Texas. WRONG! They're only basing that off the # of flights that come through the airport. Those can be skewed because what if its a layover flight or a connecting flight? They still count the passangers either way.
Only Dallas marketers say they're #1 visitor destination but everybody knows that San Antonio holds that title in Texas.
