And your thinkg about Dallas being the #1 visitor destination in Texas. WRONG! They're only basing that off the # of flights that come through the airport. Those can be skewed because what if its a layover flight or a connecting flight? They still count the passangers either way.

Only Dallas marketers say they're #1 visitor destination but everybody knows that San Antonio holds that title in Texas.
Dallas marketers do a great job of spreading false information about Dallas to make it look larger than it is. Anyone remember "Dallas is SO East Coast".

Here are the latest rankings for television markets in the US. Houston has a ways to go before it even catches up with the Dallas/Ft Worth television market because they're growing by leaps and bounds too.

Television ratings are based on several different factors. Mainly population in the greater metropolitan area. Houston is #4 for population within the Houston city limits. The greater Houston-Sugarland-Clearlake Metro area is ranked #6 and moving up quick. Future television market ratings should reflect this change.

Atlanta's tv market goes well beyond Atlanta metro area but this means absolutely nothing.

All this back and forth about DFW and Houston is inane. They are both fantastic world-class metropolitan areas. There is nothing you can buy in Houston that you can’t buy in DFW and vice-versa. They both have fantastic restaurants and great nightlife. The illusion that everybody in Dallas lives outside his or her means is just that, an illusion.

I am from Dallas and I love Houston. If I had to leave Dallas, you’d be my destination.

Now as for the population increase….congrats! I guess everyone just figured out that Texas is a great place to live. Now, if we could just do something about the traffic.

If Houston and Dallas each continues the numerical growth they've had in the 2000-2006 period, here's when each will hit 7,000,000:

Dallas-Fort Worth has averaged 134,595 growth per year; Houston: 133,088 per year.

Houston hits 6,000,000 before 2010 census,
Houston hits 7,000,000 in 2017

Dallas-Fort Worth hits 7,000,000 in 2014.

However, In both metros, recent growth has been greater than those averages. If they each maintain the growth they experienced in 2005-2006, they will hit 7,000,000 VERY close to the same time, around the 2012-2013 time frame.
I agree.
Though DFW's growth is closer to 140,000/year.
However, I have a feeling that the official 12 county metro area of DFW will be exanded to 16 when the US Census Bureau re-evaluates the Metroplex again in 2010. With that in mind, we may hit 7,000,000 sooner than you think. Having said that, the 4 counties they want to add are sparse at least at this stage of the Metroplex's growth.

Same for Houston. I wonder if Beaumont would be included in Houston's metro. There are some Beaumont commuters into Chamber's county (port, etc.).

Aggies07, as much as you agree with this post, you should know that it's inaccurate. There is plenty that you can buy in Houston that you can't buy and Dallas. As soon as Dallas gets a Valentino, then it will work both ways.

As far as I know. When the poster said that there's nothing you can by in...and so on...I assumed they were talking about expensive, hard to get things.
