Wife to be works in Med Center and she's living in 77030 at the moment on. For the time being I'll be working from home but possible to get a job in the IT field.

We're looking at maybe getting a small home and if needed a condo. Somewhere where we might raise kids.

Budget of 160k and under.

What am I looking at?

A nice home in SCR Shadow Creek Ranch (http://www.shadowcreekranch.net/homes/h_defaultfs.html - broken link) , I'm sure you or a honest realtor can talk one of the builders down under 160k for a inventory home.

You might look in Pearland ... not the Silverlake Area or the 288/518 area - those homes are newer and more expensive but you might look into some of the older, established areas that are more in the older central area of town or the older sections between Pearland and Friendswood. Good community to raise your kids - decent commute into town and you might find an older, well maintained home in your price range.

How about the crime? I've been told the South East is an area to stay away from.

I think inside the loop(south east) is the part with the high crime, parts of Pearland borders these areas, here in Houston It's pretty hard to find an area that's not next to some seedy areas LMAO this includes River Oaks, Katy, Sugarland, Mo City, Memorial villages, Kingwood... ect (trust me, it's a looong list)

Hmm, I'll have a look at Shadow Creek Ranch.

Also I'll take a look at pearland, don't want her to have to drive too far.

Thanks for the help so far!

Eek, I didn't even think of having one built. I don't know if I have the stomach for that yet.

Check for inventory homes(already built), you will get a bigger discount on those homes.

You could get a townhouse in Uptown for that amount. Express buses to the MedCenter and zoned to some pretty nice schools.

HAR.COM with zip code 77057. Plenty of kids in the area.

Thanks, found a few options there.

I'm looking at Medical Center condos and they're small+expensive. But I'm thinking the commute is going to kill us.

Any advice about the med center?

Holly halls may be an option. The maintenance fee would then also be hard.
