Default Banking in Houston

Who does everyone bank with and why?

Who has the best online banking?

I'm moving from Alabama, and I use a local regional bank. Any banks that are a good locally run organization?

I use Amegy, and am very happy with them. I am totally hooked on online banking--pay my bills, move money to different accounts, you name it.

They are running some kinda special now (I saw the brochure in a branch last week) where everything is free--any ATM anywhere, checks, overdraft protection. And they pay about 2.5%+ on your balance; much better than the typical MMF or savings account pays.. I'm actually in the process of moving my account with them over to this type of account (can't remember the name, but it's slightly different than the std checking I currently have).

We use Wachovia and have been very pleased with them. We do all of our banking online. They refund us ATM fees. They make a photo copy of your checks that are cashed, so you can see them. Very easy to work with. Everything is free. No fees when you need something.

Check out a credit union. I use First Community Credit Union and have been very happy with the rates, locations and service versus a bank. I think anyone can join as long as you have $5 to open an account.

I use wells fargo for check writing and holding cash.

Use ingdirect.com for checking/bill paying and maintain a savings account.
Even with low interest rates, it is better to get something than nothing from wells fargo.

I like Amegy, we've been using them now for about a year (some deal with MD Anderson) but I miss Frost. Frost is one of the very best local banks left...sometimes I wish I still had our accounts with them!
