Default Southwest Houston - neighboorhood recommendation

Hello,
We will be house hunting in Houston soon and would like to get your recommendations. We're a profesional couple working in computer/medical device industry. We also have a 2 year old daughter. We'd to buy a house and move to Houston.
Location:
We're originially from Vietnam and love the restaurants in Vietnam town (on Bellaire and Belway 8). We would like to find a safe and good school neighborhood between downtown and Vietnam town (corner of Bellaire and Belway 8). We will likely work in downtown but eat out frequently at Vietnam town so we'd like to somewhere in the middle (max 10-15 miles each way).
We'd like to stay under $200K if possible. We prefer homes built after 1990 with 3BR, 2BA, maybe 1700-2000 sqrt?
I thought Sharptown is good location wise but were told it's not safe and doens't have good school. Other posts mentioned Westburry.
Does anyone have recommendations for where to look that might fit our criteria: under $200K, safe and good school, within 10-15 miles b/t downtown and Vietnam town. Can we find house in Westburry for under $200K? Any other neigborhood besides Westburry that might fit our needs?

If you know of a good real estate agent that's familar with this area, I'd appreciate the contact as well.

Thanks much,
MNCold.

You'd do OK by Westbury, everybody says it's the "Next Bellaire" and you might even make some money. You'll get more for your money just west of W'bury in Lakes of Fondren and Frontenac but might have to wait longer for the gentrification. It's a big plus , though that the latter are just a mile inside Beltway 8 so it's a hop skip n' jump up the tollway to New ChinaTown. It think that's reflected in the significant Asian pop. in the neighborhood.

That whole area near Asia Town is pretty bad. It's close to a lot of low income apartment complexes and there is more reported crime in this part of Houston than most other places. I recommend looking further out towards Highway 6 and Richmond area, or closer to Memorial. You have quick access to either the Beltway or Westpark Tollway.

If they were going around to hwy 6, I would suggest just go ahead and get in Sugarland/First Colony. It's only <15 minutes to Bellaire Blvd. Plus they will be by alot of other asians as well.

Meadows Place is now about 20 percent Asian, is zoned to Fort Bend ISD schools including Dulles High School. You would only have to take Kirkwood up to Bellaire, make a right and you are basically in Vietnam town. Also, Meadows is conveniently located to 59.

She's 2. Live in V-town. My neighborhood there has lots of Vietnamese kids, we even have Vietnamese people running "daycare centers", pickup/dropoff laundry service, maid service, best massage shops and other good stuff that comes with asian communities. Gated communities is a must around here, everywhere in Houston IMO.
