However here in the states I've been advised that driving above the limit will result in fines, suspension of licence and possibly the withdrawal of my VISA for enough offences. Therefore I don't do it. [quote]

Fines = tickets. And they don't have a ticket for speeding 10 miles per hour or less over the speed limit. I.e. the speed limit is 60. There for you can "safely" go 69 miles an hour and not get ticketed. The first offense starts with 10 miles over the speed limit.

Suspension of License = driving at least 25 miles per hour OVER the posted speed limit.

Most of the speed limits on Houston roadways are 60 miles per hour. Most traffic flows around 70 miles per hour. This would be "going with the traffic". Most police officers target those folks going 75+ miles per hour in a 60. Just this morning I was driving in to work, and passed a police officer who was radaring. I was in a neighborhood, so the speed limit was 30mph. I had been talking to my daughter, and looked down to see that I was going closer to 40. He never gave me a second look.

But I find that my momobile minivan gives me a lot of second chances with the police!

Excellent information. I'll feel safe to do 10% over the limit then. I don't imagine it will make much difference to the dross that come up behind me in the HOV lane doing 75-80mph however.

I cant remember the last time I passed a pig. Usually they are exceeding the limit by a very very large marjin and passing everyone else. They sure do like to speed. Hey......who's going to stop them or tell them otherwise?

And if you go back about 10 posts there is a guy I talked to who got a ticket for doing ONE MPH over the limit so dont think you have to do 10 or more. That guy by the way embarassed that donut bellied pig in a court of law. I wish I was there to see it. Priceless !!!!
