Default Moving to Houston ... Help with Safe areas for TMC Commute

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are moving to Houston from New York City in July since she got a job with a hospital at the Medical Center.
We contacted a realtor (random choice from the web) for some places close to MC and once we started reading the reviews on the web on those places which are supposedly luxury places with rents from 1100 to 1600 /month we got a little scared. I understand that you have to take those reviews with a grain of salt but reading about apt break ins, cars broken into and shaddy characters (in supposedly gated communities) shocks and scares me. I live in Manhattan but have friends that live in outer boroughs including Bronx and Harlem and the worst complaint I heard was that some stupid kids once threw rocks at their car smashing the windshield.

Soo ...

Can you recommend either some rental places or at least safe neighborhoods that we should move into?
We obviously would prefer it to be close to MC but frankly 15-20 mins commute would be a good price to pay for safety and peace of mind. Obviously if cheaper better though compared to our rent in Manhattan all places seem cheap in Houston.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

I would look on Craigslist or use an apartment locator. I know a nice lady named Terry Short who is an apartment locator for Team Apartment Locators-713-623-1070. Also if you search around on craigslist you will see Houston has an enormous amount of places to choose from in the TMC area but utilizing Terry or any apartment locator that you like can help tremendously as you can tell them exactly what you are looking for and what concerns you have. I hope this helps!
