how to check floodplain NOT on TSARP map?
We're going to buy a home in Friendswood or the west side of League City. I want to check the floodplain, but they aren't shown in the TSARP maps.
What's the best way I can find floodplain maps that aren't on TSARP? We're just starting our search, so I'm more interested in neighborhoods to avoid rather than a specific address.
Thanks in advance!

Go here: FEMA Map Service Center -
TSARP is just for Harris County, the FEMA maps show the other counties.

Any other suggestions? Is there a local office that could help?
Thanks for the link to FEMA, but the map for Friendswood was made in 1999. Most of the houses we're considering were built after then, in neighborhoods that aren't even on the FEMA map...

It will retain the original designation until FEMA updates the map. Kinda puts you in a catch 22 but that's all there is for it. If I was in that area, I would definitely get flood insurance regardless.
Good idea to run down there and check what happened after Saturday's floods.

Yeah, I wish we were closer so we could see which neighborhoods got the worst. If we go this Friday, I'm afraid it will be too late to see it.

Probably, but if you ask around nicely I bet most folks will give you a description of how high the water got...at length and in great detail.
