Default Wanting to buy in Katy, have a few questions.....

Hi, we are looking to buy in Katy. Our kids would be at Pattison, McMeans and Taylor. Are these good schools? Are there any that should be avoided? We like Green Trails, Kelliwood and Nottingham Country. We don't want to go any further out than that as my husband does not want the commute. Is there any difference between the 77094 zip and 77450? The first is Houston and the other Katy, but both KISD. Is one more desirable than the other?
Also, looking for recommnedations for preschool and mother's day out in the immediate area.
Any suggestions for summertime activities for kids, teens down to preschool?
Please help! I know nothing about Katy and we are planning to make our home there by June. Thanks!
Anabel

It all depends on what you prefer. The schools are very good. McMeans is the only Exemplary rated junior High in Katy. Taylor is an older high school but has always been highly regarded. It has a great tennis prgram. Those three neighborhoods are closer in to Houston and offer large lots, mature trees and landscaping and older homes. Green Trails is very nice and a desirable neighborhood. But all three neighborhoods are nice. 77450 is mainly in the Harris County portion of Katy and 77494 is mostly in Ft. Bend county. Neighborhoods in 77494 include Cinco Ranch, Grand Lakes, Seven Lakes and others. Taxes are going to be lower in the eastern neighborhoods, too. Just visit and see which area you like best. Feel free to ask any other questions you have.

There are many more homes in the 77450 zip code compared to 77094. Most of the area in 77094 is George Bush Park which is an large undeveloped area that is used for flood control. All the homes are in the NW corner of the zip code. Because of limited road access through the park, there really isn't a signifcant difference in commuting time from either area. There isn't much retail/commercial property in 77094 zip code. Most of retail/commercial is along Fry Rd (particularly north of I-10) or Mason Rd. (particularly south of I-10).

I think you have been given pretty good advise on the housing so I will address the activities for children. In a word "lots". you will find activities through the libraries, the y, and word of mouth.
You'll be able to pick up publications while you are here that will outline activities. This is a family friendly, children focus area. On pre-school, from a mother's view point, ask while hear and visit the facilities. There are several of those in the area and what I would consider acceptable may not be what is acceptable by your standards.
