I'm assuming these tunnels aren't public places because I never see any of the surface dwelling 'zombie' denizens that tend to shuffle around asking for cash down there.

Do the police or security remove them or do they have some sort of instinct that keeps them out of there?

Reminds me of a reverse 'I am legend' scenario.

I think being closed in combined with the abundance of security and collared shirt-wearing corporate types tends to scare them off a bit.

Every now and then I see one (beggar) that is walking about in the tunnels but there's not that many. Outside is more open and I'm sure when they're walking down there people give them dirty looks, not necessarily because they are down there but because there's very closed in. Not much room for the aroma.
