Katy is a mixture of all ethnicities, and has a huge Latino population. You will have no problems at all, no one will "notice" you.

Yep. We all were Ralph Lauren Polos, Hollister, Ed Hardy, etc. Most listen to hip-hop/rock and others radio rap/rock. Everyone wants to see the same movie on the same day, everyone parties at the same places pretty much, etc. Like I said, we're color blind out here.

The Katy area is surprisingly diverse in terms of ethnicity and nationalities, particularly in the unincorporated planned communities. The schools are highly rated which draws a lot of people to the area. Plus, there are many ex-pats working for oil & petrochemical companies and engineering firms in West Houston. The actual town of Katy (usually called "old Town Katy") is relatively small compared to surrounding community. For example, there are 6 high schools in Katy ISD, but only the oldest is located in old town Katy.

We have been living in Katy for a year and a half now and LOVE it. I was also concerned with racism before moving. My husband and I are white but we have 3 african american children. We moved from a very racist area in Louisiana so we really wanted to do our research before moving and try to find a very diverse area. We were building in Cinco at first and then after my husband and I met with a few realtors, without our children and they told us we picked the right area bc most of the blacks and mexicans are north of I-10 so we wont have to deal with as much violance. You should have seen their faces when we told them we have three black children. Anyway we got our deposit back and decided to move just North of I10 and have ZERO complaints. Our neighborhood is a melting pot. We have whites, blacks, Mexicans, and asians just on our street. And since we have moved here we have not had anyone even look at our family funny which feels great bc back home we couldn't go to walmart without people staring and pointing. People here are really nice and most don't care at all what race you are.

It is human nature to be drawn to people who look at the world as you do. You want a place that is safe as can be, you are involved with your children and want family oriented activities, you care about taking care of your property and the way your neighborhood looks, and so will the people you will attract and socialize with. Katy is a great place to be and very diverse culturally. I think you will love it here.

Katians are all living in a bubble!! They are not dealing with the real world and yes EVERYONE who lives in that community from Fry Rd down towards Katy Mills is "White washed"! If you don't like your culture and you think of yourself as being better than your fellow Mexicans then you will fit RIGHT IN..but if you love your culture and embrace differences then RUN the other way there are MUCH nicer communities, Sugarland, Richmond!! Katians are so close nitch they talk about everyone and everything..oh one more thing if you don't have a lot you will find that you have to keep up with the Jones in this community! Everyone is trying to be someone and if u r a little diff they don't take to you very well. So if you can hang with buying things u can't afford to put on a show for people, or having your kids academiically STRESSED out then go for it! Good luck!

I think you will find that Katy has a very diverse cultural community and has come a long way from being the "redneck" town of the past. It is one of the most desirable areas of Houston.

I have read some blogs on Houston and most of the locals think all Mexicans are illegal emigrant and have little respect for the Hispanics. Is this true in Katy or any of the other out lying areas.
Second largest is Hispanics infact majority of Texas is Hispanics. I would not worry about it. It doesn't matter what others think.

A lot of them have split personalities. This means they can act, walk, eat differently with their own folks. So they fit in both cutlures.

You don't have to have a lot of money to live in Katy. Sugar Land is 'expensive'.
