Default New to Houston from Raleigh NC-Looking for info

I'm looking for land in the area- approx. 3-5 acres and I do not want to spend a fortune.
Prices seem to be very expensive near Houston. Where are good areas where new home construction is happening. I am a Custom Home Builder looking to start in Texas but need to live close by my work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to buy 3 to 5 acres in an area experiencing growth, then you will spend a fortune. You are not going to get one without the other.

Modster's probably right.

But, some areas might be Fulshear, South Katy, Richmond, and that area between Sugar Land and Katy (Aliana etc.)

Nope, still gonna spend a fortune. Not to mention most of those areas have already been bought up, developed, or have restrictions.
You can go west or north of Katy and get a pretty good deal on land, but I'd say development is still 10 years out or so. Once the northwest section of the Grand Parkway is finished (who knows when that will be) and it goes north from I-10 all the way to 290, that's when you'll see the land north of Katy start to get developed.
Land in Richmond and Fulshear has become expensive. You can try west of Fulshear in Simonton, I'd be willing to bet that area heats up soon as more people try to escape the city sprawl of Katy.
