To Answer KKid's question...The windstorms/sandstorms y'all get in Phoenix are every bit as powerful as some of the hurricanes we get. Only difference is our storms are wet and last a little longer. I've been in Houston for 5 years now and only 1 hurricane has directly hit us, and no real Tornados have hit. I wouldn't let it keep you from moving here.

Ike supposedly formed a tornado downtown.
