So as one parent of a toddler to another...buck up and wait for the DVD, or when you can actually afford to go out.
Not really 8 or 9 is worse to take into an r-rate movie. Yes a 2-year old will get bored and noisy but an 8 or 9 year old will remember and process the images he or she sees.

Usually I would agree with you. But he was talking about taking them to Star Trek or Wolverine. Nether which are really sex-related, which is what I would worry about with an 8 or 9 year old. But at that age, many are totally interested in movies like that. Movies like that get an R rating for violence (things blowing up usually) and language.

I agree with other posters that a 2 year old could become bored and become a distraction to others in the theater. Not to mention, people at an R movie aren't expecting to hear children in the theater. A child making noise during a sensitive scene can potentially ruin the "mood" for the adults watching, if the movie is of a romantic nature. An action movie might be a different when it comes to this though.

Honestly... I think you just need to find yourself a babysitter you can use on a regular basis. Kind of sad how we've progressed to this point as a society that we're afraid that we worry or even assume the average stranger would harm our children.

Star Trek is rated R? What the heck?
