Default Tornado sets down in Seabrook!

Police in Seabrook believe tornado touched down there - 4/19/09 - Houston News - abc13.com

Pretty scarey around here Sat. afternoon around 4:15-4:30. Pitch black out...and we hear this "sound"....when they say it sounds like a train...they are correct! Hubby and I gathered the animals and headed for a interior closet we have. I swear the whole house shook! come to find out...we were only on the outskirts of it! Couple small trees down...and a leak in the roof (that they just fixed after Ike) But all relatively minor.
Lots of damage done along Toddville Rd again...Those poor poor people! Some who hadn't even gotten back into their homes yet...more damage done!

Tough break. How far did it go along the ground?

wow, didn't realize how close we came shelby. We were watching the storm all day, but didn't notice any tornado sounds. Had a nice stream running down our street, got up over curb height. We tried to go down red bluff towards bay area blvd around 6pm, but there was a couple feet of water on the road, so we ended up turning back.

You didn't hear that noise??????????????????????????
I have no idea how far it traveled along the ground...I know at least 4 houses had pretty good damage.
The water in the lake came up really high again...over the docks and bulkheads and into the yards. So many people, who had their boats sitting in slings and NOT tied, had their boats float out out and into the lagoon. We stopped a boat and a jet ski from drifting out into the lake...but after that the lightening was just hitting too close for comfort. Those people were on their own to get their boats back! People came along this morning and collected their boats back...I contest we have salvage rights!. Of course, we had tied them up to the outside of our dock and the jetski rode up on the dock...should have seen us pushing that sucker back into the water after the water receded.

Scary stuff. Shelby you know I will be your neighbor by next Friday and I thought I would now have to worry about hurricane evacuations, and now there are tornados there too?

Up 59 above Houston everything was under water. So much of all that new sod they just layed along the new construction areas have washed away. Some of the feeder roads were unpassable. Up on Lake Livingston all 13 spillways are wide open and the lake is still about 10" high. The river is rushing.

But the Weather Man says we are still in a drought. Yea right.

I thought of you and your wife and wondered if you were down here yet! Glad you missed it! We have seen some water spouts over the lake....I guess twice since we have been here...but they never touched the ground and in fact, were very cool to watch! But this.....our first, and hopefully, our last. Waaaaaay too close for comfort!

The Houston area in general sort of scores high on the incidences of tornadic activity - not sure why though. Glad you are okay Shelby. So where in Seabrook did it actually touch down - Toddville area? Scary.

I work in a hi-rise downtown and several years ago we had a tornado not touch down but brush the tops of the bldgs. and knocked a bunch of windows out of a neighboring bldg. and a glass door in ours and I'll never forget the weird dark green of the sky and the rattling of the windows. We didn't hear a train but I think that is because it never touched the ground - just dipped down skimming those bldgs.

Funny how things play out....We heard the noise...looked at each other and both thought the same thing...so we gather the animals and head for the closet. Once your in there, now you feel sort of foolish and wonder why in hell your sitting in a closet? Did we just imagine it? So we sat for maybe 15 min....didn't hear the noise anymore and came out. Didn't see any "real" damage (except for the roof leak) and thought maybe we over-reacted...until we saw the news clip.

Was the touchdown on the other side of 146, toward Toddville Rd?

I was alternately trying to deal with a thunder-phobic dog and watch the storm from the garage. There was a roaring sound outside and a godawful noise coming from the fireplace. I've never heard the wind affect the chimney like that.

From what I am told....yes. And the article mentions City Hall. Funny you mention the chimney....that is what I originally thought, but quickly realized that wasn't the case!
