It's quite rational. Today's newer brands of prejudice, ethnocentrism and racism are often disguised through politeness, euphemisms and "turn and look before saying" gestures.

Well, obviously race is always a sensitive issue; however, we can't debate it in this forum. So, I ask everyone (including myself) to get back to the original topic.

Thank you.

I'm offended I'm not being allowed to use the word ghetto. Asians, whites, and hispanics have ghettos too and I feel both safe and unsafe in them. Ghetto is 'ghetto' and is a good descriptive word, feel free to think asian ghetto if youre offended by it.

ghet·to
1. a section of a city, esp. a thickly populated slum area, inhabited predominantly by members of an ethnic or other minority group, often as a result of social or economic restrictions, pressures, or hardships.
2. (formerly, in most European countries) a section of a city in which all Jews were required to live.
3. a section predominantly inhabited by Jews.

you cant easily identify Katrina/N.O./any 'refugees', but you can ID the ones you dont want to be neighbors with. yeah, clothes and cars will be tell tale signs. I dont think anyone would be ok seeing a man with old damaged undershirt (or no shirt at all!) just outside their homes. some people want to project that 'playa'/pimp image - it could be a show, but definitely signs to walk away from. that barbecue smoker in front of the homes, etc. I have one neighbor that blatantly (maybe ignorantly) violates a lot of HOA rules (garage/driveway usage, garage door always open, parking violations, loitering (in a group), noise levels (yelling, i dont know why). they have garage parties 2-3 times a week. starts in the afternoon on weekends and slows down at about 10pm. you oftenly hear beer bottles break inside trash can as they finish them. since were in a new subdivision these people seem to have designated their house/garage as the party zone for their friends and family occassions (2 'childrens' b-day parties now in 3 weeks but they dont have kids of their own).
in any case, people from anywhere can choose to be seen as 'ignorant refugees' or the decent cookiecutter home single family. once people (of any color) focuses more of their energy to be seen as 'rebels', 'menace to society', 'I can do whatever I want' and be your neighbor at the same time youre going to have a miserable time growing old in the biggest and worse investment of your life.
some people in this forum dont like too many business with signs with chinese/asian charaters in their community. understandable. you know where this original poster DON'T want to be.

Sorry you're offended. I didn't say you can't use the word, I asked that it not be used because many find it offensive. Besides, one person's definition of ghetto is going to be different from someone else's. It is important in these forums to be descriptive and not just ask, "Is this place ghetto".

Once again, this thread needs to get back on the topic which is:

Any Areas within Houston Has a Big Population of Asian or Hispanic Populations??

It appears the Chinatown area is diluted to an extent. I'd be willing to bet there are more Hispanics in that area.

By that map you'd think Chinatown and Clear Lake were similar, and that the real Chinatowns are in Mission Bend/Glen and Sugar Land.
