My opinion about this forum (Pearland)
Before I moved to Houston I spent a lot of time on this forum gathering info., then I visited here to look at several areas and homes.
I want to make the point that when you visit and then live in a place it is a different reality.
In my case, I moved to Pearland (west in SCR). The place is absolutely beautiful, the people are all very friendly and we are loving it here. Thank g-d I didint take the forums for granted.
Ones impression from this forum could be shaped by one persons comment about trafic or the like. However when you get here you see that almost nothing you read about is substantial on the ground and life cant be better.
What do you think?

I don't know anyone who lives at SCR, but the traffic there is not good and is getting worse. Yes, I drive around/through there. Plenty of times I've seen the 518 exit at the evening rush backed up for a quarter mile. Usually I'm just passing through, but I've even resorted to driving in using Cullen to avoid all that if I have to be somewhere in Pearland.

I would like to add to my previous post, that people are moving in here on a daily basis.
And there are several gorgeous new subdivisions being built. Which says something about this place.
Dont get me wrong, the trafic is not the best, but its described on this forum a lot worse than it is in actuality.

I have no idea what/where SCR is but I'd have to say you're right. City-Data is a great source to get info on a city but nothing compares to actually going and visiting for youself.
My wife grew up in Louisiana and went to Houston all the time and likes it. Until Last year I hadn't been in Texas since I was a kid and didn't remember much. I have to admit that I grew up in Tampa and spent ALOT of time in Orlando and to me, Houston was nothing more then Tampa or Orlando only on a much larger scale. We stayed in Galveston last year but managed to make our way through several neighborhoods and really liked some of the neighborhoods near Katy and in the West side of Houston. We got off on Fry Rd. and just drove around through subdivisions. Thought they were very nice.

I find it to be pretty accurate, at least what I've read. Some of it I might've posted. There is a lot of hyperbole on here about traffic in general (either understating or overstating), so maybe you're right. Of course it's all opinions and perceptions based on whatever you're used to. If you're from the country, everything in the Houston metro has bad traffic. If you're from LA, you hardly notice.
I used to live in Alvin, and I never thought I'd see the day when 518 out west was worse than 35 in old Pearland.

I'm encouraged at the frontage roads that are finally being constructed down 288 past FM518 (looks like even beyond CR59). That will greatly alleviate a lot of the traffic problems, since currently most traffic is forced to go through the 288/518 grade intersections to get ANYWHERE into or between the retails developments on each corner.

Oh really? That indeed might make it a little better. You would still have to use 518 to get from one side of 288 to the other though. We'll see how it turns out.
Oh, and SCR = Shadow Creek Ranch.

I think it will help, but I still think they've overbuilt the developments on FM518... two traffic lanes in each direction was very bad planning, and they don't have any room to expand (at least on the east side of 288).

I also think they underestimated the draw of those shopping centers, coming everywhere from the south side of Houston to Alvin and much of Brazoria County in addition to Pearland. I used to go up there when I lived in Alvin and I wanted to buy something from someplace other than Wal-Mart. Things were a lot less built up then, and they really should've expanded it then. Oh well, you know what they say about hindsight.
