Default How long as it taken for houston area teachers in the hiring process?

I am still waiting for the school district administration office to contact me. How long does it generally take for teachers in the houston area to get forms filled out with the district since the initial (first step, I believe) hiring recomendation from the principal has been sent in to the school district? Does anyone know what the hiring process entails? Does TEA have a set hiring process, like background checks, and what the checks entail? Basically, I would like to know what the human resources people won't tell me about my hiring. I have interviewed with the school and principal, the principal sent in the hiring recomendation and I even have a conditional letter of hiring intent from the district. So, what I am waiting for? The district office has had my information on file since the beginning of this month. HELP! PLEASE!

It really depends on the district and the time of year, but I would say on average it would take 3 to 5 weeks. The districts usually requires your finger prints, they do a background check on you, they call your references, and finally they check to see if your certification is up to date or if you are currently enrolled in a program to get it.
At this time of year, many school districts are busy working on job fairs for May graduates.

If I was in your situation I would call HR and ask about the status of your application.

I do plan to call the district HR. They have not asked for any fingerprints to be submitted. I know the previous district I worked for (its been one year) had me submit prints, is that info transferable to other districts? I have spoken to other teachers I they said it took 2 months, 1 month... And why does it matter that people are not in the office because of job fairs, is it necessary to have all these people involved with my hiring and paperwork?
