Okay, EasilyAmused...here is the (almost) short version..sit back, relax, grab a cool glass of whatever your fancy is, and get a clearer view of the Great State of Texas from a "really wanna be" Texan from "wherever we are coming from geographically to your great state"
First....a post I wrote on "The Texas Appreciation Thread" ..gonna retype it just for you, cuz really, I am a techno-dummy....but worth the effort...edited for our hopeful move soon....
THINGS I LOVE ABOUT TEXAS
**Tall, tall pines...even in my back yard
**Our perfect beautiful home we will be moving to REAL SOON !!!!!!
**Southern Hospitality--recently a young man held the door open for me at the Texas Roadhouse...unusual at any time in CA...but he actually waited with the door open for me even though I was a good 30 paces away!!
**ability to eventually retire, without having to supplement my income being a 90 yr old Walmart greeter
**warm weather (yep. even the hot stuff) and cloudbursts of warm rain..My favorite time of Texas Spring/Summer/Fall is the balmy evenings...sheer perfection!!!
**Lake Conroe (DH and I used to have a Sea Ray boat...planning to get one again for this fun !)
**wildflowers....no explanation necessary
**The Woodlands/Conroe area in general--access to every level of shopping and dining one could possibly desire
**Texas BBQ--yummy!!
**baked sweet potatoes with butter, cinnamon, & marshmallows--double yummy!!
**good, decent people, with good, decent morals and values
**no "gangsta" presence (at least not in The Woodlands / Conroe area, that we have seen, certainly not as prolific as in CA)
**PRIDE IN TEXAS EVERYWHERE--Texas flags on homes, Texas flags waving
**cinnamon sugar pecans
**Bush Airport--that airport is the EASIEST of any to get in/around, and out of than any I have been in in anywhere in the world..and I have been in many--- domestic and international-- over the years..
**Loved the way folks came together to help each other after Ike..truly inspirational to say the least
**In San Antonio--The Alamo, The Riverwalk, and El Mercado
**H E B --man that place has everything !!!
**Several groups of friends living locally...some native Texans...some Sonoma County transplants...favs are DH best friends from Sonoma County CA Jr Hi / Hi School that we found out when we were closing on our Conroe home live in Spring just a few minutes away !! Super small world !!
**Sometimes, after decades in one place...a change is rejuvenating..My parents moved from CA to OR....we chose TX for clearly....many,many reasons.....
