Fort Bend Resident Contracts Swine Flu | Houston weather, traffic, and news | MyFoxHouston.com | FOX 26 (http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/health/090429_fort_bend_swine_flu - broken link)

It's spreading fast, the reason why im wearing a mask tomorrow. Here's the Article.

Quote:
HOUSTON - Officials with the Fort Bend County health department say a 17-year-old girl who tested positive for swine flu has since recovered.

The girl was tested late last week after showing experiencing some of the swine flu symptoms. A swab test was sent to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and health officials were notified Wednesday of the results.

No one in the girl's family has exhibited any symptoms of the swine flu, health officials said.

However, officials said the private Harris County school the teen attends will be shut down Thursday. Harris County health officials are expected to release the name of that school Thursday.

Fort Bend County health officials said the girl hasn't been to Mexico recently.

Currently, officials are waiting for test results on 30 suspected cases of swine flu in Fort Bend County. But they said the cases could include the seasonal flu.

So far, a total of 16 cases have been confirmed throughout Texas, including eight in Guadalupe County, three in Dallas County, two in Starr County, one in Cameron County and one in Fort Bend County.

Hey guys, I've strayed pretty far from my Maine forum to come see what was being talked about regarding the Swine Flu in Texas. Are people down there really wearing masks? In Maine we just had our first confirmed cases right around where I live!

Masks?!? I don't think so...besides, masks won't help you much. WASH YOUR HANDS!

Yeah so seriously? 30 suspected cases in Fort Bend? I think I'll be keeping my kids home from daycare for awhile...daycare is a freaking germ factory. My kids are constantly sick with viruses and especially the youngest is at that highly vulnerable age. Yes I know it's maybe the same as regular flu but we got shots for that, not for this. My kids have trouble breathing even with common colds, I can't imagine what the flu would do to them. Am I overreacting? Maybe...maybe not.

I assume that just good hygiene and such is the best way to protect from it. Washing hands, coughing into elbow, staying away from people who are sick, etc.

Here in Maine some schools are closing and there are confirmed cases now along with several dozen suspected cases being tested so I guess its better safe than sorry.
