Default Reliant Energy wants a $1000.00 Deposite to turn on new electricity!

Is that right? We have near perfect credit. I am off to do some research on Power to Choose right now. I am just so irked!

When we moved in 5 years ago...brand new house...they waived the deposit. I've had no problems with Reliant.

Don't do it!!! There are so many other companies out there. Centerpoint services all the electrical stuff so it doesn't matter who you have except when it comes to how much you want to pay. I am with Spark, I do not recall having to give them a deposit so even if I did, it couldn't have been very much since I don't remember it!

Btw, have you checked your credit report? After they told you you had to pay this much for the deposit? That is kinda suspicious.. Normally, they do not do that if you have good credit. I paid 500 Dollars some years ago, but I just had started with my credit and had a very low score cause it was new.

I would go ahead and check all the credits now.

Reliant was recently (last month) bought out by another company (NRG) who said they were dropping the prices 10% right off. It will be interesting to see how the new company operates.

If I had been you, the conversation would have stopped abruptly with two words (the first starts with an "F") and *click*

Absolutely ridiculous. Don't put up with it. Find a decent electric company, Reliant doesn't qualify. (how they stay in business is puzzling)

I have never had to pay a deposit for electricity my entire life, much less 1k. Rather annoyingly I had to pay a $75 deposit to the MUD for water service despite paying them $2800 a year in MUD taxes.

See above Reliant is now NRG, they didn't survive, they sold.
