Conroe isd vs. Cy fair isd (Houston, The Woodlands: apartments, house, neighborhoods)

My family could possilby be moving to cy-fair area. We are currently in The Woodlands. Con anyone give any comparison of tyhe two. We just moved here in august. We have not had a good experience with an elementary school in Conroe. How is Cy-fair I.S.D.

Did you know that Cy-Fair ISD is the third largest school district in the state of Texas? You're going to have to narrow it down to a specific area and/or school to get a meaningful answer. Of course the first point would be that Cy-Fair ISD is much bigger than Conroe ISD but comparing school districts is silly, it's the actual school you really care about.

I've heard a lot of people are unhappy with The Woodlands schools. It's the drive for image and the pressure for TAKS scores that seem to be the issue. But really, I think you're going to find that in many of the burb districts that are still growing.

Friends of mine have moved from The Woodlands to a small house here in Spring Branch ISD. They claim it's still TAKS focused, but not nearly as much as Deretcin (?) where they were. One of the girls they put in private because she was so lost with her learning problems that CISD wouldn't help with.

We are looking for the best or good elementary schools in Cy-fair. Our youngest is in first grade and they let him sit on level 3 reading for damn near the whole year. Now he is on level 12. After numerous meetings with the administration and teacher through out the year this situation went all the way to the superintendent of Conroe isd. They are rediculous in his elementary in Conroe isd. I will be working for cy fair so I wanted to know if it would be a good idea to move and have them in the district with me. Is this worth the move. Cy fair talks about the resources they have for reading programs in there elementary schools. Our son can read we just want him to be taught and not feel like we are doing the teaching at home and he is just at school for review.

We have a nice feeder pattern in Longwood with the following schools:

Hamilton Elementary - Exemplary
Hamilton Middle - Exemplary
Cy-Fair High - Recognized

There are numerous other nice, solid K-12 feeders in other parts of the District. I can think of several at Cy-Woods, Cy-Ranch, Cy-Fair and Cy-Creek.

Check out the HP Corridor Area: pretty, upscale area with lots of nice communities situated off either side of Louetta Blvd, between 249 and 290 (zips: 77429, 77070, 77373)

Lakewood Oaks Estates, Lakewood Glen, Lakewood Glen Trails, Wincrest Falls, Hidden Falls, Longwood, Coles Crossing, Rock Creek, Quail Forest, Hunter's Valley, Lakewood Forest, Villaggio, Tuscany, Lakewood Crossing, Lismore Lake, Stable Gate, Cypress Creek Reserve, Village Creek, Lakewood Grove, Northpointe Forest, Gettysburg, Villages at Northpointe, Lakes at Northpointe, Treeline, Park at Arbordale, Stillwater Village, Oak Hollow Estates, Lakes of Rosehill, Park Forest, Secret Forest, Northlake Forest, etc.

I agree with citizen_jane--there are plenty of great schools in either district, and plenty of not-so-great...to me, both Cy-Fair and Conroe are about the same, in the most broad generalizations...one is not worse than the other.

Both districts have exemplary rated elementary schools. Since you don't mention your current school, it's possible that even an exemplary rating will not fix the problem you're having. However there is one big difference between the districts as a whole that you may care about. Cy-Fair ISD uses the "open concept" classroom set up. There are no walls between the classrooms. I know people in Cy-Fair that both like and really dislike this set-up. It's up to you to decide if this would be a distraction to your son.

BTW, Mr Football is right about Hamilton Elementary. It is highly rated but some of the subdivisions he mentions are not in Cy-Fair but in Tomball ISD. I live in Lakewood Forest and my kids attend Lakewood Elementary (exemplary) in Tomball ISD. The subdivison is split between the 2 districts. Villaggio,Village Creek, Lakewood Grove, Northpointe Forest, Gettysburg, Lakes at Northpointe, Treeline are all in Tomball ISD

We know that no district is perfect. But we had such an issue with our son and his school, with the reading program they have in conroe and there RTI(response to intervention) it is rediculous. He did not start to recieve help until we had to kick an even bigger fit to the superintendent. It has been really stressful and we know the teacher is angry with us but in the long run she dosen't have too raise our son we do. So who is going to advocate for him better than his parents. His school is rated exemplamary but I have come to find out that dosen't mean anything. I will be teaching at Cy-Ridge anybody know anything about them?

Cy-Ridge is the closest in to Houston of the 10 Cy-Fair HS. Ridge enrolls kids from the apartments along 290 as well as the upscale Lakes on Eldridge / Twin Lakes area neighborhoods. It has a more diverse enrollment, racially and financially.

Which was the High School in Cy Fair that was ranked one of the most dangerous/or had the most drugs in the country a few years back? It was even on a primetime news program on "persistantly" dangerous high schools.
