You should look at some of the apartment complexes around the Medical Center. It's very close to U of H and in my opinion a safe area.

If you are a junior or senior or grad student, Calhoun Lofts are opening in August. At first glance they look really expensive but then when you look at all the things bundled into the price, it starts to look more reasonable. I toured them last month and they are a lot nicer than I expected them to be. Some of the rooms had amazing windows with views of downtown Houston.

I have said this before, I would NEVER live on campus. Yes, it does look very appealing and stuff, but there is way too much crime around it. Didn't matter if day or night.
454 Dollars ( says starting at 454, so probably even more) for 341 sqf. is pretty expensive. That's pretty tiny. If this was a regular apartment, they would probably want less money cause it's in a very unsafe area ( not desirable ).I live inside the loop and I have more amenities , but pay less. I think it's pretty outrageous that U of H demands so much money. Considering you also pay tuition. They literally milk you.
You're not gonna be able to find a nice apartment winthin 2-3 miles of U of H. If you want to live close, then you need to live somewhere inside the 610 loop.
I considered living on campus too. But there's too much crime and the area is pretty ugly. I am also disappointed that it's so expensive. Not student friendly at all. A real turn off to me.

The debt service on Calhoun Lofts is $7.2 million per year for 30 years.
They have to charge that much.

Maybe they shoul have built something else, something student friendly? I do't have to live in a very expensive apartment as long as I'm a student. Tuition ain't cheap at UH!

I've wondered about that, too. I'm assuming UH did some type of market research to figure out what students want, but I don't know. When I was a grad student, I never lived anywhere with granite countertops, dry cleaning, and a concierge service.

Calhoun lofts is overpriced for student housing. When I calle,d there weren't any $545 dollar lofts, the price was closer to $800. $545 is reasonable since the price includes utilities, $800 is not. We actually need a two bedroom, which is what I called to inquire about, but the price was about $1600 a month, and children were not allowed. Thanks, but no thanks.
How does U of H expect to become a Tier 1 school if they can't even provide housing for married students with families, graduate or otherwise.
The rep that I spoke with on the phone suggested this complex. It looks nice, but unless I were to live on campus I have no desire to live in Southeast Houston.

It dosen't say anywhere what the " Utility Package " exactly is. At least, I can't find it.
Edit:
Well, there it is:

Utility Package(includes water, gas and electricity up to $25/month per bedroom)

That's not much.
