No but I have friends from up there and also the NE. It's completely appropriate to put them in the same cultural unit as folks in Massachusetts and Maine. Just living in a different location doesn't mean you're a different culture.

Texas is a part of the Southwest, no? When I hear people say they're from Texas, this is my general thought, that they're surely not Southern, and surely not Western, it's Southwestern.

I guess. Texas for the most part is a southern state, but it has southwestern influences.

The 'NO' part is correct. Texas is in the South Central part of the south; along with Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma.

AZ, NM, CO, NV are in the southwest.

The US is made up of 4 regions like so:

NE, Midwest, South and west.

The regions are further divided into subdivisions, like this:
http://drpcloud.com/wp-content/uploa.../692usamap.png

the subdivisions are
New England- Boston
Mid Atlantic- NY, Philly, Pittsburgh, Buffalo
South Atlantic or South East- DC, Baltimore, Atlanta, Miami
East South Central- Birmingham, Jackson, Memphis, Louisville
West South Central- Houston, Dallas, NOLA, OKC, Little Rock
Mountain West- Denver, Butte, Cheyenne
Pacific West or West Coast- LA, SF, Seattle, Anchorage, Wasilla, Honolulu

And: Where is Arizona - Where is the Southwest United States - Which States Are in the Southwest

Colorado and Nevada I generally consider to be part of the greater Western United States(History and Culture A _ 2011-2012: WESTERN U.S.). If you include these states as part of the Southwest, then you gotta throw in TX and OK.

Really, to me, the fact these threads about Texas' identity exist, further prove my point of how Texas is Southwestern. You cannot TELL me that West Texas is truly Southern. I give credit to East Texas; that region itself is legitimately Southern. But Texas as a whole has to be considered Southwestern, the Western influence (food, cowboys/culture, desert) cannot be ignored.
