Default From Phoenix to Houston (the dream is dying)

Hello All.

It's been a while since I've posted. The plan was to move to H-town in 2011 but guess what, I'm in AZ and am a testament to all the news you might get about the hardest hit states.

We have a home out here that we bought for ~$277,000 in 03' and we've seen it go potentially $580K to ??? We had 6-7 foreclosures in a 95 lot area and although it seems that all but 2 all been purchased the amount that our homes in this area is "worth" is questionable. Current estimates look to be ~$300K but again that is an estimate and dependent on those last two homes obviously.

I have two Aunts in Cypress and an Uncle in Spring. Not to mention several cousins but I don't keep in contact with them as much. I have been to Houston many times. I am a Pharmacist and my wife a lawyer. Beyond licensure, the only other hurdle getting there would be selling our house HERE in AZ. That is a harrowing task as you would imagine.

So I have just watched through the window if you will. I've got my family's opinions but they don't live in the areas that I am curious about nor are they well versed with the local politics or state politics in general. I understand the Hurricaine issues as I lived in New Orleans for 4 years (before Katrina; 98-01') but I am also curious about the new developments (to us anyway) about the Texas Housing Authority being supported and "saved" by Texas Politicians??? That is a poisonous cocktail in the least is it not? Weren't they already bed fellows anyway? Does it matter? How is one really supposed to hold builders accountable for problems in construction? Not looking for a partisan debate here just practical answers to issues that always can come up when dealing with construction.

Regardless I was looking in the Sugarland/Pearland area my last visit (08') and among my other questions I am curious on how those areas have fared and what has been the result of the aftermath in general.

We really didn't get much damage here. Just lost power for a long time, fences blown over, big trees down, some flooding. Things are back to normal now.

On the whole, Sugarland & Pearland continue to grow & develop. No major changes since you were here in 2008.

Smile I moved from Phoenix to Houston in 2008

It was the best thing I ever did. I have no regrets. I am living in Katy. I too saw the value of my home get cut in half and took a BIG! loss on it.

I have compared Houston and Phoenix to no end and to me Houston always comes out the winner.

Having been a builder myself, I can say that there are more guidelines, inspections, restrictions and oversight now than ever before. It is difficult just to get the permits to build. That is a good thing. We have some very reputable and good builders and some not so good. The Fort Bend, Sugar Land, Missouri City, Katy areas are all very good ones. I live in the area near Cypress and love it and there are new developments here as well.

Sorry Guys

The Hurricaine.

I was thinking that is all that on everyone's mind in Central and Eastern Houston but I guess not.

Thanks for the info LizzySWW. I had heard from the national news that the economic meltdown didn't affect you all much at all but is this incorrect?

Also still curious about your state legislature and it's bed fellows.

Thanks again for the responses.
