I've just accepted a new job in Houston and will be moving there in the next month. I know nothing of the city and could really use some info on good places to live and spend my free time. My interests are fairly diverse - I really like being outdoors (running, biking, etc) but also enjoy live music, theatre, stand-up comedy shows and good food. I'm in sales and will work out of a home office so a commute will play a minimal role in my decision. Any thoughts on what area would be a good fit? Thanks.

Inner Loop would be great for you. Fantastic Urban and art life here. Also outdoor activities... Many are switching to high rises and mid rise condos which also have their own mini city within a building and social circles. Include those in your search as well as town homes.
