Galveston does have an art scene with art walks and other activities geared toward the arts. It is also somewhat of a college town with UTMB and A&M Galveston. Many eco friendly businesses like artist boat that joins art with kayaking and conservation. If you play in a band you will make friends on the Island. Most Galvestonians I know dont talk politics but they are pretty serious about partying.

I moved from Chicago to Galveston in 2000 and lived there up until 3 months ago. From a Northerner's point of view, I see Galveston as leaning more towards conservative than liberal.

We Galveston Conservatives are quickly wresting power from the statist/big government crowd who have run the city into the ditch for the last 2-4 decades. Now that the Mitchell family has nearly single-handedly restored the buildings, and the Sullivan family has started creating new wholesome, family-style neighborhoods, the fiscally-conservative, Judeo-Christian values that made our isalnd and nation strong are returning to center stage. Galveston SHALL return to her former glory, with conservative leadership, wholesome family values, and fiscal conservatism.
