m2F- The Woodlands Express breaks down all the time. You can see one broken down on the side of the road about once a week.

We had that same issue when we came to Houston. We have tried West Pearland out 288. We didn't like the upper schools (the elementary is great with a great principal) which is not an issue for you. I have read about crimes in Shadow Creek Ranch. Things stolen from their garage and assault. I don't know if they were major crimes or are continuing problem. The police report just had them.
We're moving to Sugar Land mostly for the schools and family amenties. If the schools are not an issue, Missouri City seems pretty and is relatively close to TMC. My husband will be taking highway 90 from First Colony. He says that when everything is smooth (no accidents) the traffice runs very smoothly on 59 and highway 90 doesn't have a lot of traffic for Houston standards.
Sugar Land is one of the safest cities listed in Newsweek, I believe. Not as pretty as the Woodlands but the closest to the Medical Center.

No more than METRO, I'm sure. The difference could be replacement availability--but with the incompetency of most bureaucracies, I have doubts it would be any faster. Hubby has sat on a broken down 298 for over two hours on the HOV waiting for another. The ones behind couldn't come to rescue as they were all full; they had to wait for an entirely different bus. It was just lovely.

If you are moving to the Woodlands, consider giving up your job at TMC and get on with one of the hospitals up north. Life is too short to spend that much time every day commuting.

I think the best way to check the commuting time it to do an experiment. Stay in a hotel at the Woodlands, take the shuttle the next day and check whether it is acceptable to you.

It all depends on your priorities. Could you take 2+ hours/day on a commuter bus? And that much more time away from your family? what do you like to do? Does it involve anything in/near the Woodlands? It's a give and take situation.

Like others have mentioned, there are no areas immune from crime. It would be foolish to make such a drastic move just to be disappointed that you are a victim of crime in the Woodlands (or never a victim of crime again in the Medical Center area).

I know people move where they do for a multitude of reasons, even if it is 8986945684 miles from work (and hell, work locations can change just as easily), but I'd serious examine your priorities before doing so. It seems like such a knee-jerk and trite reaction to pack up and move to the 'burbs when the inner-city "demons" start to haunt.

There are car break-in and roberries and murders in TW too. In fact, the only time I've been a victim of crime has been deep in the heart of TW.

I live in the woodlands in the college park area in a nice apartment complex. I have lived here almost a year and a half. People have their cars broken into here as well. Just this week management sent around a notice about several car break-ins. We've only had one assault on the complex that was reported since I've been here. Anyway, point being is I guess you can't escape crime anywhere. I do feel very safe here though. I still wouldn't walk around by myself at night.

May I ask which apartment complex do you live? I have checked Plantation and Pine Creek Ranch, both looks pretty nice.
