Best Areas Surrounding Houston
Hello All,
My husband has recently been transferred to the Houston area. We are looking for a safe, picturesque area to purchase a home. We are in our 40's, no children, love dogs, biking, nature walks..We'd like about 3000-3500 sq. ft. with as close to a half acre as we can find (we've checked area home pricing and find it affordable). Low crime and natural beauty are priorities. We don't mind an hour or less commute to jobs and do not want to live in the city proper. Any suggestions?

The Woodlands? I couldn't consider seriously it myself when looking for a house because it's maybe 45 min or so north of Houston but it might be good for you and your husband.

Check out Foster Creek Estates. It's exactly what you're looking for. Large oak and pecan trees, Jones creek runs through the nabe, and there is natural rolling terrain. That area is also really popular for road biking, and I always see people out there riding on FM 359.

Fulbrook in Fulshear. Half acre to around 3 acre properties. Several hundered year old oaks & pecans. Custom homes....plus everyone has to have the same pea green fence around their property & it looks so pretty!

I would look into The Woodlands and Kingwood areas, basically North and NE Houston. It is heavily wooded with lots of nature trails and water recreation around.

If you enjoy the water, come on down to the Clearlake, Seabrook area. Lots of beautiful parks that run along the water. I live on Taylor Lake on Seabrook Island...if you like boating, you are able to a have a boat in your backyard. Only pitfall....we are in a Hurricane evacuation area.

Go to www.har.com Look at 77379 and surrounding areas including Cypress and the Woodlands. The more North you are, the more trees you'll get, for the most part.

Kingwood would be under an hour commute, maybe 40 minutes on a bad day. The Woodlands would be over and hour. However, unless it's a community that's based around an acreage style layout, lots are pretty small in most of the MPC's. You really have to get up into the higher price ranges to get anything over 1/3 of an acre.
