Katy 77494 to Downtown, and to Galaria Commute?
Hello, we are moving to Cinco Ranch, Katy. I am looking for a job, and a lot of great positions are at Downtown; some are at the Galaria area
How realistic is it to commute from 77494 to Downtown and to Galaria? How long, and how bad would it be? Would "park and ride" be a good option???
Thank you for your help. We look forward to moving from CA to TX.

You're gonna have a HELLatious commute if you're going from Katy to downtown or the galleria area. Seriously, we're talking 1.5-2hours on average. I would seriously consider moving closer to your potential jobs or work closer to Katy.

The Westpark Tollway will solve your problems if you can afford it.

I live right off 1093,(Richmond, literaly across the street from Cinco Ranch) and work at I-10 and Kirkwood. I leave my house every morning around 6:15 and get to work around 6:50. I have had to enter work later and leaving at 7:30, I get there around 8:30. If you work close to the westpark tollway, the commute would be no problem.

I have no experience getting to the Galleria area so I can't offer you anything there, but I can tell you that I take the bus from the Highway 6 "Addicks" Park and Ride into downtown for work. I just started doing this a few weeks ago and I am truly surprised at how easy and quick it is. I'm already saving money on gas and getting to work less stressed out and faster. The bus takes approx. 30 minutes to get downtown - it used to take me longer than that to drive a much shorter distance to my old job.
My ex-wife lives in Katy and when she worked downtown, she also used to take Park and Ride, from the Kingsland lot off Mason road. The bus really is a very good option if you're going downtown.
I think that as long as you have fairly easy access to a Park and Ride lot, you'll be fine.
Good luck!

For the benefit of other people reading, I want to ask about the other 2 business destinations: Greenway Plaza and the Medical Center. How do I get to those places from Cinco Ranch using the commuter bus?

We will live off I-10 and Grand Parkway, at Cinco. How far is it to reach the nearest park and ride?
THank you for all your helpful input! The good/better paid jobs are all in downtown so I may have to endure the commute
From what I read, park and ride is the way to go? How come the bus can get there in 30 minutes but it takes 2 hours by car driving on Westpark Toll?

atk350, thank you for info. May I know how long it takes from Cinco Ranch to Downtown, using the "park and ride" line?

I'm telling you, Katy to downtown is NO PICNIC. I-10 construction makes it even worse.

I-10 Construction starts east of Highway 6 now. You would make it to the Park and Ride at Highway 6 in a few minutes. There may be some slow downs, but it would be no big deal. If you really wanted to, you could exit Barker Cypress or Park Ten, and go north to Park Row Boulevard. Go east, and it will take you to the Highway 6 Park and Ride. the Highway 6 exit has too much traffic.
