So I'm reading the Hurricane Preparedness Guide and it occurs to me...after the June DTV transition, will all the current battery-powered TVs work??? I don't see a word about that on the prep list....
I actually have one of those new converter boxes (bought for someone who now won't need it) but obviously, those boxes need electrical power too.

I'd actually like to buy some of the list stuff and was thinking about a battery TV...but isn't there this issue now?

I am Technically Challenged, so if there is some gizmo one will need be Very Specific and don't use any big words. Thankee.

You need a thigamajig. You can attach it to your whachamacallit and it'll make the whatsit work like a proper doodad should.

I hope that helps!

Skip the thingamajig. You'll need a new battery-powered TV to receive digital signals. They were crazy expensive, but prices are coming down on them. I just saw one the other day in a brand I'd never heard of for $99.

No, the old battery powered TVs will not work. You have two alternatives:
1) New battery powered DTV - they run between $100 to $200, see Radio Shack or on-line stores
2) There actually is a battery powered converter available out there, just hard to find.

Here's one from Amazon.
Amazon.com: Axion AXN-8701 7-Inch Widescreen Portable Handheld TV with Built-In Tuner (Black): Electronics

Notice it specifically says in the description:
Built-in NTSC/ATSC tuner for both analog and digital channels - so it WILL work after Feb 19, 2009

I have no idea if this one is any good, it's just the first one I found.

A-ha. So I 'm not crazy (at least not on _this issue)... Good thing I didn't go buy one yet.

Good to know, thanks for the link. I shall keep an eye out for the (hopefully) falling prices on such products!

Thanks everyone!
