Its in relatively close proximity to downtown Houston and there is a lot of potential for development especially along the beltway. Just miles and miles of undeveloped land the stretches all the way out into Sheldon.
I noticed Spring but never bothered looking in that area assuming that apartments/home rentals would be too expensive considering its one of the more coveted suburbs. Am I right? Also assumed that it would extremely family oriented and that good nightclubs/sports bars would be far away. I heard that Humble was closer to these things.

Lauren_Ashley012 is on a distinguished road
It really depends on what part of Spring your referring to. Spring is on the west side of 59 and it has many of the amenities you may be looking for. That stretch of 1960 which extends from 45 to 249 is highly developed and has a lot of great shops, restaurants, and entertainment for singles, families, and couples. I said Spring may be a better option as a single person because there are plenty of new/fairly apartments along that way.

Humble and Atascocita (Lake Houston) are a bit more residential. We have several great master plan communities that are popping up (Fall Creek, Summerwood, Eagle Springs, etc) with many in plan for development. While certain parts of Humble may be fairly older its a very charming place to live. In my personal opinion Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita are fairly "country" as in there isnt a lot of diversity compared to areas west of 45.

But unlike Cypress we have a lot of room expand without being so far out from downtown Houston. I think Atascocita has a lot of room to grow and it is a very nice area with lots of trees and natural beauty.

So, it really depends on what you are looking for. If your looking for an area that is quiet and serene I would say Atascocita/Lake Houston is the way to go. If your looking for lots of fun and entertainment with clubs and sportbars you may find more of that in the Spring Area.
