You may be able to find a studio or small garage apartment for that much with probably nothing included, but otherwise, I do not know of any places anywhere in your price range.

It would still help to know more about what you like in a community and how much you are willing to drive/take transit (for work, for school, of you know where those will be).

Houston is enormous so there's a lot of ground to cover..

I would say certain parts of Clear Lake would be an ok suburb for a mid 20-something (esp if you can find work there) but then I saw your $400-480 price range and that's probably not gonna happen anywhere. I'd start at $700 and work from there, maybe upper 600s to put you in some place you won't absolutely hate.

Why exactly do you want to move here, if you've never visited? Some friends or relatives already here? What is attracting you? Maybe we can confirm or deny concepts you may be holding about the city, or how you expect to live. As tstone and others have already pointed out, your rent expectations are unreasonable for anyplace you would _want to live.

And what line of work are you in, or hope to be in?

$400-something a month is going to put you someplace sketchy, unless you luck out and find a tiny garage apartment or efficiency somewhere.

I would think a 24 year old would prefer the city. Closer to the "cool" bars, coffee shops, etc where younger people hang out. You're also closer to where most of the events houston (festivals, etc) take place. But, it is pricer for a safer area.

You'll have more luck at your price range in the suburbs but if you're looking to meet people, etc, you'll have a lot further to drive.

Well you didn't say you were willing to drive everywhere...and a long way for classes.
I don't know the whole scoop on the 1960 area apartments, but I do understand some areas are really really not nice.

Also, Rice is really hard to get into so UH is probably more realistic.
