Default How much to RNs make in Houston area?

1. Being a new grad on a Houston med surg floor.

2. What do RNs (2 year exp.) make starting out in a Houston ER?

Hi, new future grad here (July 17, '09), and thinking whether I should move back to home in Greater Houston area, or go to Miami for a year. I did calculations and my living expenses would be double if I chose Miami, but still, Miami is Miami and its only for one year.

I plan to do 2-3 years med surg and then go to ER. I speak some spanish but still learning. I was hoping to get approx. 24-25. Here in ohio where I went to nursing school (sucks up here by the way), average starting out is 19-22!!! Anyways, in replys are appreciated.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I'm a male nurse, married with 2 kids and hopefully one more soon!!!!!

It depends if you work private or public but with bilingual skills your hourly wage may range from 25 to 35 an hour for the first few years...

Default RN wages

You will be able to make at least $30.00 per hour, possibly more. I am a RN here and I make more here then when I was in Connecticut.

Like EM1956 said, about $25-30 an hour and 12 hour shifts. You'll get shift differentials for nights and weekend work.

Let's not forget about signing bonuses. Be sure to negotiate and don't take the first offer. Nurses are in demand here.
