Glad to see that 4 years later, You still blame Katrina evacuees for your crime problems.

The Woodlands is far from country. Its so close to Houston they are almost seamlessly connected. You really can't tell when you're in The Woodlands & out of Houston other than the newer & nicer strip malls along the freeway, most of which are partially hidden by tall pine trees.
Country is some po dunk town like Willis.

I agree with Newdaawn. I moved to Houston (actually Sugar Land) from New England (Manchester, NH). I haven't had anything really happen to me here in the Houston area but I see that stuff in the paper and on the news almost constantly. I understand Houston is a huge city but the crime here does seem to be out of control and I have lived in a few other big cities. I felt much safer in Boston than here in Houston. You really might want to consider moving somewhere else because it doesn't seem like Houston really takes any steps to do anything about the crime here. The biggest downfall to moving to New England is the winters but I will be moving back there. I would rather deal with cold and snow than all the crime in Houston.

You just said you havent experienced any crime, yet you are afraid and would rather move? The local news will make everything sound bad but in reality most of those things are related to drugs/gangs. If you are not in a gang or dealing /using drugs then most likely you will not expereince any crime.

Agreed. Moving away because of perceived crime or junk you hear on the news (come on, really?!) seems silly. I wouldn't say Houston's crime is any worse overall than any other large city - you can run, but it will always be around (or at least broadcast on the news ).

Been here going on 5 years and have YET to experience anything of the sort. Crime is expected from such a huge city but compared to other metros we are on the low end in my opinion. I'm part of a sport bike riding group and we are out at all times of the night with no issues. I've lived in lofts downtown and walked through downtown to get pizza at 2:00am in the morning with no issues. You may really want to consider Missouri City or Fresno (my brother lives there). Mush more peaceful for an older person. I personally would never live in the country, way too boring and nothing to do but to each its own. Richmond is also a good idea, very country like atmosphere but still close enough to not be isolated. I moved here from what many consider a country town, Beaumont and I will NEVER move back. Career wise metro areas are where you need to be if you want to actually make money and a career. Country towns have nothing to offer an IT specialist with oil and gas experience.

There is crime in every big city. Read the newspapers and believe half of what the media flings and you'd never go out of the house. I've been here 5 years and have never even come close to experiencing any sort of crime.
Be aware of your surroundings at all times and use some common sense. Doesn't get any simpler than that!

Hi, So sorry to hear of all of this happening to you.
Houston isn't all bad. I wouldn't live in the inner city myself. I love the suburbs though. I live in Crosby, but wouldn't mind being in Huffman or Dayton.

I love Houston and would never consider living in the suburbs. However, it does feel extremely dangerous. I used to live in Medellin, Colombia which felt like Disneyland compared to here. I also lived in Charlotte, NC which is much smaller but still felt extremely safe. I have had to pull my gun twice in less than a year. I almost got the last guy trying to steal something from my yard. The police here are a joke. They never even come when you call. I guess you have to put up with alot to live here, but I feel like it's worth it.
