Default Wow!

You are the poster boy (errrr, woman) for crime in parts of Houston. Of course, not all parts are like that. How unfortunate that you have had all those things happen to you in such a short time, it is obvious the neighborhood is not that great.

For what it's worth, I moved to Houston 25 years ago, and I was never in any sort of situation you were in, but I did moved out of Houston to Katy after five years, and have not seen that at all where I live now.

As others have already said, crime is everywhere. No one has a crystal ball, and hindsight is 20/20, but according to your previous posts, you were skeptical to come to Houston to begin with. A lot of posters to your threads offered good advice, which it appears you did not heed.

Also, you say you were carjacked from the previous place you came from, so as you can see, no place is immune from it. You also note you are moving to Fayetteville, there is crime there too.

Personally, if I were offered up to thee times my salary and 100% paid medical to take a job, I'd think twice about leaving, unless you are willing to throw away a career. As an employee with 25+ years with one company, I've seen many people give up, or ruin their careers out of poor decisions. If you have time to reconsider, and you haven't burned any bridges at your place of employment, or let any employee know your true feelings, I'd study your situation given your age, and place in life.

Regards

I would suggest Tomball or Magnolia. Tomball has more of a small town feel and Magnolia is country.

Can I ask what area you live in now? I've lived in Houston my whole life (except for college) and never experienced anything like this.

Oh, and shopping at Wal-Mart will leave a bad taste in anyone's mouth. Find someplace else like Target, Kroger, HEB, etc.

If you want to be on a lake, Lake Livingston might be a good choice for you. It won't be as expense as the areas closer to Houston. And Livingston has a country feel as well (or so I think).

The OP needs to move to The Woodlands or Missouri City. The Woodlands being country with all the big city activities minus the crime/violence/issues.

There is going to be drama inside the big city.

Wow, I'm so sorry.

But I agree with Topaz. The police are wrong, this is not happening to everyone all over Houston. I don't know why they would say that.

I've been in Houston a decade now and have not once been a victim of crime, knock on wood. I even used public transit for work. However, I am very careful and know what living in the "big city" is all about.

Crime is probably up some everywhere these days; a good friend of mine is a cop with Travis County (Austin) and tells me it's up there too and this happens every time there's an economic downturn.

I encourage you to take a deep breath, calm down, and for crying out loud STOP going back to that particular Wal-Mart. Sounds like they have a crime problem at that location or general area. Near the Alief area, not surprising; one of the higher crime areas of Houston.

AlexTX has a good idea there. Tomball is a very nice town (I grew up one town over in Spring). We considered it "country" because we didn't know what to call a small town. That might be a good place to look.
I also think HookTheBrotherUp has a good point. Consider your move wisely and with the counsel of wise friends.

The OP should check out Missouri City or The Woodlands...it's that easy....to see if it's better.

If you are looking NE, you might try Crosby/Dayton area. The city is growing, but that area is still countrified.
Me too, Poltracker...and I have lived in some interesting parts of town. Oh well! Some people are targets, I guess...I dunno...

There's a listing in Huffman that is just awesome, it's a home with acreage and a pool, it's around 199K. It's as country as you can get while still being near the city. 2024 Holder Rambo Dr, Huffman, TX 77336 - HAR.com

Agreed. Did the OP do ANY research whatsoever before moving here? I mean, ALIEF? Come on! No wonder she hates Houston...

To the OP: Do some more research and find what you want.

Thanks 'Buck.... I hate to be negative here, but would feel better saying this to the OP... if you are moving because you hate Houston, and your job, and are now leaning on your husband's job and the relocation opportunities related to his job, you should really consider all your options.

No one has to remind anyone of the economy, and the job loss the country has experienced; however, if you now are depending on your husband's job, or even your own as a ticket to get out, then what will happen if you do relocate, and the job does not pan out, potentially leaving one, or both of you unemployed. How would you fair? At your age, it is very difficult to find a new career. I'm just speculating here, BTW and giving the OP something to think about.
