Kittytoes, it sounds like you've been a victim of some very bad luck more than anything. I've lived all over the south side basically all of my life (including that side of town) and haven't dealt with anything worse than a stolen car stereo and subwoofer. Nor have I sparked any Wal-Mart road rage, but that is one place where you gotta act right. Regarding crime, the "it's everywhere" line you get fed is an excuse the police will give meaning it's not worth their resources.

Anyway, I remember when that stretch up & down Highway 6 from Bissonnet to the West Oaks Mall was halfway decent. Now much of it has degraded and many of my old friends' parents got up and sold out to either a better suburb or closer into town. You know things get dicey when Target, Wal-Mart and grocery stores move away and then the buildings turn into 99 cent stores, and then Timmy Chan moves in nearby. And all of that started happening over 10 years ago and just kept going downhill.

The $1000 / month for a rental house is on the low side and might attract some riff-raff, but that shouldn't necessarily equate crime-ridden. I lived in such a house for a year in unincorporated Webster/Friendswood without any issues at all, and the selling prices were around $110-120k. If you look around some other unincorporated areas I'm sure you can find something in that price range in a better area. I hate to say it, but you really are in one of the worst ''suburban'' areas in the metro.

You must live in Mission Bend....or near there. I am sorry youy have had bad experiences. I would consider a move to Cypress if I were you. Alief is not where you want to be in Houston.

Smile You should move to South Katy

In south Katy ou can rent for around 1000 a month and you wont have those kinds of problems. In that area where you are there is a lot of crime.

Why did you move there?

City living isn't for everyone, and if you're from the country (the real country, not someplace like Conroe where the traffic absolutely kills any "country" vibe there is to it) the suburbs are probably going to be a bit fast for you too.

There really isn't any place within commuting distance that I'd call "country" but it's open to interpretation...to me, as soon as people start commuting from a place to the big city it's the end of "country" for where they live. All the trappings of an urban/suburban area follow quickly. It works the same in and around every large city.

Not sure where you live, but there is NO decent wal mart directly in Houston. They are all ghetto. The one on dunvale is the worst of all. I always go all the way to 1960/ cyrpress or Katy to go shopping.

I have a small place at Lake Livingston I'd like to sell..you'd need to do some work on it but the price would be right.. 1 1/2 hour from downtown Houston...

I just don't go to Wal-Mart, full stop. It's a good thing, really.

If this guy couldn't even sucessfully ram your car with his, then I wouldn't worry about him being able to opperate something as complex as a firearm, what with the loading, cocking, safety off, aiming, firing, etc.. Seriously, ramming a car isn't hard, you just, like, don't use the brakes. IE, I seriously doubt he was trying to ram your car. I'm sensing a potential Drama Queen, but If I'm wrong, some suggestions below.

Based on your experiences, I would get the heck out of wherever your living, and stay the HECK out of Walmart!!!

I've lived in Greater Houston (northside, Spring) for all 28 years of my life, and I've never been afraid for my life, nor have I ever had a vehicle broken into, or a gun pointed at me. The only Crime I've seen commited was when I was down off Kirby near the Dome, and a guy ran out of the convenience store with a bottle of something he'd grabed and ran out.

Since you work from home, and it appears you are out sorta west anyway (Mission Bend?), why not look at Fulshear? It's still county, but close enough to Katy to do shopping.

The OP experienced an episode of "road rage" with that one guy. Unfortunately that can happen just about anywhere.

The other issues seem to be limited to going to a trashy Wal-mart. Eliminate the trashy Wal-mart from your life and you eliminate a lot of the issues.

I haven't had these kinds of problems and I drive all those most fashionable avenues like Broadway, Bellfort, Telephone, Lawndale, Lockwood, Harrisburg, Cavalcade, Irvington & Fulton, on pretty much a daily basis.
