Hello! We recently moved from DC and I am interested in investing in Houston real estate. My question is - How can I find out what a particular property recently sold for? Isn't this public information? I don't want to have to call a real estate agent everytime I want to see what a property sold for in the last few years. I know how to find the tax assessed value, but how do I find out the recently sold price?

Thanks so much! Dena

You either call your agent or march on down to the county clerk's office and look it up. Texas has laws that prevent this information from being published to the public.

You can actually go to Houston Real Estate - Houston Homes, Houston Home Value and Houston Relocation and they have info on a price range and date of last sale. You must know at least the street name and it will give you a range, i.e. $120k-$140k - it won't be an exact figure however, if you're just interested in an average - start there.

As others have said; Texas is a non disclosure state. It's very simple to find out, but you have to go throgh a realtor, as they will be the only ones with access to the correct info.

Duh I'm not a realtor

To the OP, here is an example that I just pulled up and the info below is what I obtained from the site, as I said it is a "range", will not give you an "exact" figure. Just for the record the prices are "correct" because I've discussed with some friends and neighbors what the houses sold for and when going back to the site to check, the "range" is "correct".

If you would like to look up actual real time sold information and you don't want to deal with an agent or spend hours at the county clerks office you can do so via a new search tool found in the Swamplot.com blog post below.
