Savoy apartments are pretty nice, but I think TSU might be buying them out. It's about 5 minutes from the UH campus; this might scare you, but.....it's closer to TSU.
One should ignore you. It's still not decent. It's in a bad area.

Calhoun lofts is a bit costly for me. I am planning to share an apt with a friend of mine or maybe even 2. I have started contacting agents, specially at Houston Real Estate - Houston Homes, Houston Home Value and Houston Relocation to try to get me a place somewhere in University oaks. I suppose that is the best option for me.

Then you and I can both hope that University Oaks keeps developing and gets nicer over time. That area has such potential and it would be great if there were some stores and restaurants there instead of Wheeler having a bunch of boarded up houses with Metro notices on them. I understand that Metro will build a mass transit option using Wheeler but I wish it would start happening sooner. That street is prime real estate next to a major campus and it looks like a mess.

Yeah, hope someone replies to my enquiry about the place soon.

You are so right! That street could really use a whole new makeover ranging from sidewalks to renovated buildings to better resturantes. I'm still surprised their isn't a starbucks in the area, besides the one in UH right?

Right, and the Starbucks that are on the UH campus aren't on the Wheeler side. We need a Starbucks and at least a few choices of places to eat. My friend in the restaurant industry says that restaurant owners are worried about crime in that area, so I guess nothing will happen until they solve the security issues.

haha I havent seen many people demand another starbucks... but there definately needs to be better places to eat on campus.

Fonzie... I have a suggestion that might not be exactly what you would like.. but hear me out.

You and your friends could get a great apartment in the Medical Center and since they are all UH students... you guys could purchase a low-cost reliable car and carpool over there. Trust me having a car in this city is a huge convenience.
The medical center is full of International Students that attend UH. You will definately meet people and still be in a SAFE, CLEAN and Somewhat Convenient location.
another PLUS is that you have a car to do things on the weekends.

If you look around and really try to find a deal... A car and an apartment would still be in your budget.
