I agree. We were just there & I had the same thoughts about some of the really old houses on the West End........lots of them are being pulled down & it's definately a good thing!

Yes, Moody Gardens. We saw the Titanic exhibit there last year as well. It was very interesting. An amazing tragedy.

Depsusie is on a distinguished road
When we went to Kemah last year. we met a lot of deaf folks there. We saw a party being held at Joe's Crab Shack.
They told us there are a good amount of deaf pople in the community down that way. Is it the college in the area that draws the deaf community ? Anybody know ?

The only thing I can think of is a university in Beaumont has some kind of sign language studies program.

I've never noticed one way or the other.
What has deaf people in Kemah got to do with Galveston thriving?

Me either.

And what does Beaumont have to do with either Kemah or Galveston? This is a bit of a stretch.

Anyway I might be going to G-town this weekend to see how much clean-up has been done, esp on the east end. Seeing is believing. It was nothing but piles of wreckage when I was there last time, on New years eve. In order to walk along the beach safely I had my steel-toe construction boots on.

Here's an excellent photo feature showing comparisons of Galveston right after Ike and 1 year later. Click the photos to see the "later."
