New to Houston - thoughts on Jersey Village?
Going to be working in Downtown Houston starting this fall, stopped by Jersey Village and saw some apartments I liked but didn't have enough time to get a feel for the community and what the commute would be like.
Any thoughts? Thanks for the help!

Small city, strict law enforcement. Seems nice to me.

If you are renting an apartment wouldnt it be better to get closer to DT? Just to save time and money on gas.

I would think that Jersey Village is very family oriented- (i.e maybe not the most exciting place for young people) and from what I hear, any commute on 290 is not good.

It's faaar from downtown...and yeah, 290 is not fun.
About four years ago I thought it would be a fun experiment to move farther out (I worked central and had always lived within 610). I didn't go as far as Jersey Village, but more around 290/Hollister area. 290 was awful and I ended up taking TC Jester in which wasn't as much of a nightmare, but the distance+time was still pretty bad. The move didn't last long...

The commute is going to kill you. I have friends and family in the JV area. Last time I tried to make it out there, leaving from downtown at 6:30pm, I got there at almost 8. For the next few years, 290 is a parking lot during rush hour.
